Do you have an alcohol licence?
No. If you wish to sell alcohol at your event, you will need to obtain a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) from the local council. However, we do allow alcohol to be served without a licence, as long as no physical sale takes place.
Do you charge a corkage fee?
No.
Do you allow a cash bar?
Only if the hirer or bar provider has obtained an alcohol licence.
Are you licensed for wedding ceremonies?
No. East Dean Village Hall is a venue for hire only. While you cannot hold your wedding ceremony here, the Hall can be used for all other parts of your wedding day
What time must music or live entertainment end?
- Friday & Saturday: by 10:30 pm
- Sunday to Thursday: by 10:00 pm
When must the Hall be vacated after an event?
- Friday & Saturday: by 11:00 pm
- Sunday to Thursday: by 10:30 pm
When can we return to collect our belongings?
This depends on the length of your hire. For weddings, venue hire is usually based on a 2- day package: from 12 noon on Day 1 to 12 noon on Day 3. This allows time to set up before the event and clear up afterwards. You will have until midday the day after your event to collect belongings, clean, and leave the Hall as you found it.
If not hiring the Hall for two days, we ask that hirers include enough time in their booking for both setup and clear-up, as the Hall must be left in the condition in which it was received.
Is the venue ‘exclusive use’?
Yes. East Dean Village Hall is exclusive to those who book. This applies to the Hall, the car park and the surrounding grounds.
Do you have staff or event managers on site?
No. The Hall does not have on-site event managers. However, a member of the Hall Committee will greet you on arrival, show you around and remain available on call if any issues arise during your event.
Are there any décor restrictions?
Yes. Nothing may be pinned, taped, or attached to the walls, beams, or doors. This includes the use of Blu Tack, tape, or staples. The Hall is a historic, Grade II-listed building and we ask all hirers to help preserve it.
Are real candles allowed?
No. For fire safety and insurance reasons, only LED candles are permitted inside the Hall.
Are dogs allowed?
This can be discussed at the time of booking. As a general rule, dogs are not permitted, unless necessary (e.g. assistance dogs) or for a special occasion, such as a wedding
